What happens when you reset the dishwasher?

The dishwasher is equipped with various hardware and software components that work adjacently to run the dishwasher smoothly.

The problem arises when any one of these components stops working.

In this situation, you either encounter an error code, or the dishwasher stops working.

When you reset your dishwasher, it will reset all its components, including the dishwasher processor and memory.

This results in eliminating all the issues and problems from the dishwasher.

However, resetting the dishwasher does not fix all the issues in the dishwasher.

You can’t fix technical problems like a motor failure, Faulty inlet valves, or clogged issues by resetting the dishwasher.

These issues are shown via an error code in the dishwasher. If you don’t know what error codes are, go to the next section of this article.

What are error codes?

Error codes are the indication of issues or problems inside the dishwasher.

A dishwasher is an advanced home appliance that is made up of using hundreds of parts.

Inspecting each of these parts and looking for problems is a tedious task.

Therefore, the dishwasher has this advanced error detection system that searches for problems inside the dishwasher and throws an error code upon detecting the problem.

However, the problem with error codes is they are difficult to understand.

After all, they are a combination of numbers and letters. You can find the meaning of these error codes in your dishwasher owner manual.

If you don’t have the owner manual, don’t worry. Here we are going to discuss all major error codes along with step-wise solutions to eliminate them from your dishwasher.

1. Error code F0

If the Maytag dishwasher is showing an F0 error code in the control panel, there must be some problem in the dishwasher controller.

The issues can be anything, including short circuits, damaged control boards, or faulty control panel buttons.

First of all, consider resetting your dishwasher. If there are minor issues in your control panel, resetting the dishwasher will fix it.

If this does not eliminate the F0 error code, you should inspect the control panel of your dishwasher and properly inspect for the issues.

2. Error code F1

Error code F1 in the Maytag dishwasher indicates motor fault issues or motor current not changing in specific.

This mainly happens when there is a problem with motor wiring.

If the dishwasher is displaying an F1 error code dishwasher may not load the tanks properly. Similarly, it can also cause issues in draining.

If you are getting error code F1 in your dishwasher, follow the below step-wise instruction.

  1. First, turn off the water inlet valve.
  2. Turn off the power supply coming into the dishwasher. If you are unable to turn off the water inlet valve, do not turn off the power, and make sure to keep the door open.
  3. Now press the cancel key every time you hear the alarm tone.

If this does not fix the issue, I recommend inspecting the motor by accessing the bottom access panel of your dishwasher.

3. Error code F2

In Maytag, dishwasher error code F2 indicates issues in the heater. If your dishwasher is not heating water during the wash cycle, there is some problem with the heating element or the wiring.

If the dishwasher is showing an F2 error code, you should inspect the heating element.

First, run an empty cycle and see if the dishwasher is heating water or not. If the water is not heating, ensure the heating element is in good condition and not damaged.

Replace the heating element if it is damaged by any means. If there is no issue in the heating element, check the wiring of the element.

You may need to remove the dishwasher from the cabinet to access the heating element wiring.

4. Error code F3

If your dishwasher is showing error code F3 in the control panel. This indicates that your dishwasher is receiving more current. It mainly happens when there is a power surge in your dishwasher or welded relay.

To fix error code F3, first, you should reset your dishwasher. If this does not fix the issues, you need to make an inspection of the dishwasher wiring.

I recommend you check the wiring of the control panel, motor, heating element, and sensors.

5. Error code F4

Error code F4 indicates issues with the soap dispenser. You will get this error code if the detergent has not been detected in the wash for 10 cycles or more. The error code is associated with the detergent cup.

F4 error code indicated a problem in the detergent cup. Therefore, make sure that the consumer is using detergent in the main cup.

If there are no problems with the main cup, make sure there is no issue with the cup wax motor wiring.

6. Error code F5

Maytag dishwasher error code F5 tells the user that the lid is not locking properly. It indicates that there is some obstruction while locking the door.

The first thing you should do when your dishwasher displays error code F5 is to ensure there is no obstruction in the lid.

If there is any kind of physical obstruction, remove it from the lid. Similarly, if this does not eliminate error code F5, check locks striker alignment.

The striker is the component of the dishwasher that allows you to press down the lid switch. In addition,

I recommend you check the actuator motor wiring and make sure that it is tightly secured in the motor terminal.

7. Error code F7

F7 error code indicates a fault or problem in the turbidity sensor. In the dishwasher turbidity sensor measures the dirt in the water and disables the drain motor and water valve. If there is some issue with the Turbidity sensor, you cannot start the drain or wash cycle in your dishwasher.

If the turbidity sensor is not working appropriately, it will give a bad reading, resulting in error code F7.

To fix this error code, check the wash processor sensor from the control board and the wiring.

Make sure there is no problem in the wiring and that it is tightly connected to the sensor.

8. Error code F8

Error code F8 is associated with an issue in the wash arm. If the dishwasher wash arm is not rotating properly or not spraying water during the wash cycle, you are likely to get an F8 error code in your Maytag dishwasher.

In most Maytag dishwashers, the wash arm is located at the bottom of the dishwasher. You can access it by removing the lower dish rack of your dishwasher.

Once you remove the lower dish rack, make a thorough inspection around the wash arm.

Make sure that there is no foreign object around the wash arm during rotation.

You can inspect for the problem by removing the wash arm. Depending upon the model, you may require to unthread the screw to remove the wash arm from the dishwasher.

You can check the owner manual to know how to remove the wash arm.

9. Error code F9

If the dishwasher is showing an error code, F9 indicates thermistor sensor failure. The main function of the thermistor sensor is to measure the water temperature in the dishwasher.

Thermistor failure is mainly caused when there is a mechanical separation between the resistor element and the lead material.

If the wash cycle is not starting in your dishwasher thermistor is damaged in the dishwasher.

You can also dishwasher thermistor using a multimeter. If the existing thermistor is damaged consider replacing it with a new one.

This will surely eliminate the F9 error code from the dishwasher.
